Municipal SMS

City emergency alerts by text

Storms, road closures, boil-water notices, and day-to-day city updates — from a dedicated number residents already know how to text.

What cities send

One number for everything residents need to hear — routine and urgent.

Weather and storm alerts

Severe weather, flooding, and storm warnings the moment they matter.

Road and utility outages

Closures, water main breaks, power outages, and repair updates.

Boil-water and public safety

Boil-water notices, evacuations, and public-safety alerts that can't wait.

Events and parking

Street closures, parking changes, and city event reminders.

Department groups

Public Works, Parks, and other departments that opt in on their own.

Why text

Text reaches people who will not open an email or download a city app. When a storm or outage hits, an alert lands on the phone that's already in their hand.

Unlimited groups

Create unlimited custom groups so Public Works isn't in the same blast as Parks. Organize residents by department, neighborhood, or interest and send only to who needs the update.

Frequently asked questions

Can residents opt in by texting a keyword?

Yes. Residents can subscribe by texting a keyword to your number, so people opt in themselves and land in the right group without city staff entering numbers by hand.

How fast can a city go live?

After checkout and the provisioning form, your number is usually live in 3 to 5 business days. You can start sending as soon as that number is live.

Is this only for emergencies?

No. Emergencies like storms and boil-water notices are common, but cities also use it for everyday updates — road and utility work, events, parking changes, and department-specific groups.

Can we separate departments?

Yes. Create unlimited custom groups so Public Works isn't in the same blast as Parks. Residents get only the updates they signed up for.

How do staff log in?

Your phone number is your username. After signup, a password is texted to the number you entered, and you log in at dashboard.textwire.com.
